Proven results

'Building resilience and well-being for post-covid adolescents through outdoor adventure', peer-reviewed research published in the Journal of Adventure Education and Outdoor Learning.

This unique study into the impacts of outdoor adventure education showed remarkable results for the 600+ diverse adolescents who had taken part in the Live It programme at Kingswood centres across the UK.

36% increase in resilience
23% increase in psychological wellbeing
94% felt more confident because of their Kingswood trip
80% were more confident in meeting new people
70% felt more confident about their education or job prospects
80% felt more positive about people from different backgrounds to themselves

"When you hear the children saying ‘I've done something today I thought I would never be able to do’ it really does show the power of these types of experiences. I'd unquestionably recommended a trip here for students of any age." North Durham Academy, completed NCS Live It at Dukeshouse Wood

Powered by Skills Builder

The Live It programme has been awarded a Level 3 Impact Award.

The Skills Builder Partnership is a global movement of employers, educators, and impact organisations working together to ensure that one day, everyone builds the essential skills to succeed.

Powered by 800 leading organisations across education and employment, the Framework has now been backed by the UK government in statutory guidance. The Partnership now has a touchpoint with 75% of UK secondary schools and colleges, as well as being adopted by a growing range of businesses.

The Skills Builder Universal Framework is a transformative approach to building the essential skills of individuals throughout their lives, in education and employment.

"Honestly I can't rave on about it enough. Everything was so well organised, the activities were so much fun and pushed everyone out of their comfort zones, the staff were so brilliant the venue was perfect, and every single student has made memories and learnt skills that they will take with them through their entire life. I have been a teacher for 14 years and organised numerous trips, and this was by far the best one yet! I know they will all take so much away from this experience. I honestly cannot talk about the residential enough!" Open Academy, completed NCS Live It at Overstrand Hall

Honing the skills they need to succeed

Each element of the programme supports one (or more) of the ‘Four Cs’ of 21st century learning:

Creativity - embracing inner strengths, looking at problems from different angles.

Collaboration - working and negotiating with others, deciding on the best course of action.

Communication - conveying information appropriately and in ways that can be understood.

Critical thinking - asking questions and being engaged in the wider world.

"It was lovely to see the students flourish in all aspects, especially their confidence. We had students speaking to your staff voluntarily and asking for repeat instructions if they did not understand, which is something they would never dream of doing in their normal circumstances. Their personal and employability skills were hugely developed and it really did warm our hearts to see this with our students. So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much to all of you!" What does it look like? The modules

Live It is built around real-world outcomes and developed through a series of amazing challenges. Live It is about building learners’ confidence and resilience, setting them apart when applying for and starting their careers.

Each day offers a new module, before the programme curriculum is channelled into a final day of outdoor adventure.

Calm Compass

A mindfulness orienteering session blending nature exploration, personal development, and mindfulness.

Money and Me

Participants in the Live It session will embark on a dynamic and engaging journey designed to cultivate essential financial skills while aligning with the theme of tangible experiences and employability.

Epic Challenge

Participants will take part in a series of different challenges set across the activity centre over the course of the day. Each challenge has been designed to help young people bond you as a team to prepare them for the future.

Crisis Management

Young people team up and role-play a scenario on the Kingswood high ropes course; developing their communication and problem-solving skills, while emphasising the value of positivity and aiming high.

Presentation Skills Workshop

A dynamic, interactive workshop that delves into the essentials of public speaking – body language, projection, building confidence and learning how to nail a presentation or elevator pitch.

Your Voice Matters

A guided discussion and debate over topics relevant to the young people. This opportunity to respectfully express listen to each other’s opinions builds vital social skills.

Trip Reflection

A key part of experiential learning, self-reflection with the eight Skills Builder learning outcomes in mind: listening, speaking, creativity, problem solving, aiming high, staying positive, leadership, teamwork

"It is a fantastic week which really helps to embed team work and collaboration within your cohort, I would whole heartedly recommend it. [...] Our cohort face challenges emotionally, with anxiety and being in uncertain situations. Many have missed large chunks of education and been too nervous to go on school trips. The majority of our students were able to access this course which will go with them into the future as positive memories of a great time had while they were in education."
