Set in the heart of the picturesque town of Criel-sur-Mer, an old fishing village in Upper Normandy, the charming 17th century Château de Chantereine stands majestically in four acres of beautiful private grounds. The Château is ideally situated at the border of the Normandy and Picardy regions. The ancient region of Picardy is home to historic monuments and sites, including the Battlefields of the Somme, while Normandy has a distinctive character of its own, with beautiful chalky cliffs, busy seaside resorts and traditional fishing ports.
When you’re not out exploring the sites and culture of France, your group can unwind at the Château and bond as a team with our selection of adventure activities.

Below are our standard excursions and tours, if you want to do something that is not listed we may still be accommodate this, so please get in touch
Rouen – explore the capital city of Normandy. Learn about its architecture, Joan of Arc and the Black Death that plagued the city
Dieppe – a half day visit to the port town where your group can learn about Abraham Duquesne and the WWII beach landing, operation jubilee
Wellington Quarry in Arras - a thought provoking experiential visit to the medieval quarries used to hide 28,000 British soldiers before launching an attack
Vimy Ridge - this site saw fighting between France, Britain and Canada against the Germans on hill 145. Explore the reconstructed and preserved trenches and defences form WWI. Combine with Arras or Wellington Quarry
WWI Battlefields – A full day on the Somme visiting five sites as our guides deliver personal stories of bravery and sacrifice
- Tour of a goat farm (in English and French) in the region of Neufchatel with a tasting session of goat’s milk and refined cheeses with home-grown herbs. Learn all about the different production techniques involved. There are lots of Alpine goats on site and also various other farm animals such as cows, chickens and horses
Apple orchard – explore the orchard and discuss the life cycle of the chemical free techniques used to produce their cider, brandies, pommeau and vinegar
Beach – Just a 20 minute walk from the Château, the beach is great for games, a traditional meal and ice cream!
Nausicaa – one of the largest public aquariumns in Europe, home to over 35,000 marine creatures – located in Boulogne, a great place to visit on the journey to or from the Château. Find out more at http://www.nausicaa.co.uk/
Chocolaterie de Beussent – the passionate owner of this small chocolate factory takes the group through the process of chocolate making, with a tasting at the end!
Biscuiterie d’Hardelot – A traditional biscuit and cookie maker demonstrates how they make their products through an interactive demonstration
Meal at a French restaurant – Kingswood will contribute towards the cost of a meal for the group at one of two restaurants in Criel sur Mer
Local markets - experience French culture first hand by visiting a traditional French market and interacting with the stalls to barter on prices. We visit three local markets - Mers-les-Bains on Thursday Morning, Eu on Friday Morning, Dieppe on Saturday Morning
Add a trip to Disneyland® Paris or Parc Astérix!
For an extra treat for your group, why not add a theme park trip to the start or end of your visit?
We can arrange an excursion to either Disneyland® Paris or Parc Astérix at an extra cost. Due to its location, Disneyland® must include an overnight stay in Paris and we can offer preferential rates on accommodation. Parc Astérix is closer to the Château and can be done as a day trip with an early departure.
Accommodation at the Château is divided between three buildings in multi-bedded rooms of 2-12 beds. All three accommodation blocks have rooms across two floors, with toilet and shower facilities on each floor. Both right and left wing also have disabled access and facilities on the ground floor. All accommodation buildings are security protected with digital coding.
Guests at the Château enjoy three traditional French meals per day, including:
- Breakfast is a continental buffet with brioche, baguettes, cereals, tea, coffee, milk and juice with croissants
- Lunch is a make-it-yourself packed lunch with a variety of ingredients on a buffet to choose from: hams, cheeses, tuna, salad, tomatoes, cucumber… as well as a juice box, a bottle of water, fruit, a packet of crisps and biscuits

Any of our daytime activities can also be run as evening sessions during the evening, subject to availability.
Our school have been visiting the Chateau for the last 8 years and the experience for our children has been amazing. The tailored programme and range of activities is fantastic. Our children return buzzing, a trip of a lifetime.
