Top 10 activities for team building

A new school year means a new class full of bright eyed students who are keen to know what their year ahead will be like. Whilst for some pupils the excitement will bring them energy, others may be feeling a little overwhelmed, nervous or shy.

We’ve put together a list of our top 10 best activities for team building at Kingswood, to help you bring the class together in a fun and exciting way.

1. Bushcraft

Our bushcraft sessions teach young people skills necessary to survive in the wilderness, encouraging them to think about the natural world. Pupils can enjoy learning to construct a shelter, safely lighting a campfire and using campfire gadgets to cook meals outdoors. By working together in teams, bushcraft teaches important life skills such as resilience, communication, problem solving, creativity and overcoming personal challenges.

Available at: Colomendy, Dearne Valley, Dukeshouse Wood, Grosvenor Hall, Isle of Wight, Overstrand Hall, Peak Venture, Staffordshire, West Runton.

One of the classic activities for team building, logical thinking and creativity. Pupils work together to design and build their raft out of barrels, logs and rope to then take to the water and test out their craft – whilst trying not to get wet!

3. Jacob’s ladder

One of our High Ropes elements where small teams of two to three climbers have to really pull together on this activity. Students must navigate their way up a giant high ropes ladder of horizontally suspended logs, where the challenge comes with the ever-increasing gaps between the rungs. Pupils will have to effectively communicate with each other, discuss their options, weigh them up and decide on the best course of action.

Available at: Colomendy, Dearne Valley, Dukeshouse Wood, Grosvenor Hall, Isle of Wight, Overstrand Hall, Peak Venture, Staffordshire, West Runton.

7. Construct

Construct is the most complex problem solving task we provide at Kingswood and is ideal for older groups who want to explore real world learning. Using a set of specialist equipment our staff facilitate the design and build of a Kingswood Activity to be used by the group. Working together to manage appropriate risks and supporting each other the group work in a practical way to build a ‘low ropes course’ that must transport the group safely across an area of woodland.

Available at: Colomendy, Dearne Valley, Dukeshouse Wood, Isle of Wight, Overstrand Hall, and Peak Venture.

10. Bouldering

Using our indoor climbing walls, pupils recreate the feeling of bouldering on real rocks. Staying only a few feet off the ground and supported by mats, with classmates acting as their spotters, they navigate across the bottom of our climbing wall. This is a great alternative to outdoor climbing, and can also be used as a 'warm up' exercise session, before trying our larger climbing walls.

Available at Colomendy, Overstrand Hall and Peak Venture.
