NCS Boss It
A 5-day, fully-funded programme for 16-17 year olds to find their feet in the world of work through adventure activities and workshops.

It's employability, but not as you know it
We don't believe in traditional learning, and employability is no different. We're working with National Citizen Service and Loud Speaker to deliver a fully-funded programme that helps young people find their voice, discover career opportunities and gain the skills needed to succeed.
Over 5 activity-packed days, the NCS Boss It programme combines outdoor adventure learning with interactive workshops and inspiring talks, culminating in a careers fair that gives young people a chance to hear direct from local and nationwide employers.
Supercharging the '4 Cs'
Boss It is built around real-world outcomes, developed through a series of amazing challenges. Each element of the programme supports one (or more) of the ‘4 Cs’ of 21st century skills, which have been deemed essential to help modern learners succeed - both in school and the workplace.

Boss It supercharges these skills over 5 fun-packed and memorable days that will set them apart when applying for and starting their careers.
- Creativity - embracing inner strengths, looking at problems from different angles
- Collaboration - working and negotiating with others, deciding on the best course of action
- Communication - conveying information appropriately and in ways that can be understood
- Critical thinking - asking questions and being engaged in the wider world

The modules
Weird is Good! Employability skills workshop by Loud Speaker
In a world filled with noise, our ability to speak distinctly and authentically is invaluable. This workshop is designed to tap into the power of individuality, helping young people harness their unique experiences and transform them into compelling narratives for both personal and professional arenas.
Starting with the fundamentals of effective communication, we guide participants through the art of personal branding, ensuring they know how to present themselves in a manner that's both genuine and captivating. But the heart of our workshop, we teach participants to mine their own life stories — the loves, challenges, failures and successes — and to mould them into insightful interview responses or a platform for entrepreneurial progress.
By the end of our session, participants won't just walk away with improved communication skills; they'll leave with a 30-second self-pitch that's grounded in their personal journey, ready to inspire listeners and leave a lasting impression.
Whether seeking to influence change, smash that job interview, or embark on an entrepreneurial venture, our workshop equips young people with the tools to communicate their story with clarity, passion, and purpose, for both love and money.
Epic Challenge by Kingswood
Participants will take part in a series of different challenges set across the activity centre over the course of the day. Each challenge has been designed to help young people bond you as a team to prepare them for the future.
Teams accrue points by taking part in challenges, and come together at the end of the day to celebrate their achievements.

Food for Thought by Kingswood
Using a range of resilience-building bush craft skills, Food for Thought brings the young people together and challenges them to prepare and share a meal together using a budget as a selection of resources.
Designed to challenge a broad range of skills, Food for Thought brings teams together away from the distractions of 21st century life to focus on human needs and connections, working together towards a valuable shared goal.
The programme supports the young people to recognise their contribution to various parts of the challenge and foster a true sense of independence.
They’ll also have the opportunity to develop creativity, resilience, leadership and teamwork skills in a truly interactive session with a tasty outcome!
Talks and interactive sessions
Throughout the week, twice-daily seminars will provide insights into the world of work and encourage young people to explore their skill set and carve their own futures. passions.
Job fest
The week will culminate with a career fair on the Friday that brings together local and nationwide employers to inspire and inform.

Here's what participants had to say about our NCS Skills4Life programme:
"This was a truly fantastic week. I have spoken to our young person from YCC and she tells me that she didn’t think she would like outdoor pursuits, but she realised she really enjoyed climbing (and has gone on to pursue this recreationally), it also helped her to see that despite her social anxiety, she can cope with meeting and working with other people she doesn’t know, and manage experiences (and thrive) that she doesn’t think she can do. It built her confidence and was a brilliant week for her." - TTVS, completed NCS Skills4Life at Skern Lodge
It was lovely to see the students flourish in all aspects, especially their confidence. We had students speaking to your staff voluntarily and asking for repeat instructions if they did not understand, which is something they would never dream of doing in their normal circumstances. Their personal and employability skills were hugely developed and it really did warm our hearts to see this with our students. So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much to all of you! Especially Sam… who is definitely going to go far! He really is a huge asset to the team! - Derby College, completed NCS Skills4Life at Dearne Valley, March 2023
I just had to email and say an absolute massive THANK YOU for organising the absolute best residential I’ve ever been a part of! Honestly, I can’t rave on about it enough. Everything was so well organised, the activities were so much fun and pushed everyone out of their comfort zones, the staff were so brilliant the venue was perfect, and every single student has made memories and learnt skills that they will take with them through their entire life. I have been a teacher for 14 years and organised numerous trips, and this was by far the best one yet! Honestly both myself and the students had the most enriching, exciting, and memory making week! I know they will all take so much away from this experience. I honestly cannot talk about the residential enough! - Open Academy, completed NCS Skills4Life at Overstrand Hall, March 2023
It is a fantastic week which really helps to embed teamwork and collaboration within your cohort, I would whole-heartedly recommend it. [Our group] learned the importance of teamwork, and also how to present to a team in a fun and dynamic way which I believe will go with them into their work life. Fab week! Thank you so, so much. -Wings Southwest, completed NCS Skills4Life at Skern Lodge, March 2023
