Risk Assessments form the building blocks for ensuring effective Health & Safety management at every Kingswood Centre, and underpin the Health & Safety of all school trips. The information on these pages is available to assist Party Leaders with the planning of their Kingswood visits and the collation of the necessary documentation to satisfy Local Educational Authority and/or Board of Governors requirements.
Kingswood operates comprehensive generic Risk Assessments for all its activities, which are then backed up by centre-specific Risk Assessments to take into account any local requirements to ensure Health & Safety is maintained. In addition, ‘dynamic risk assessments’ are carried out on an ongoing basis by the instructor leading each session to reflect ongoing changes to conditions.
Kingswood's Risk Assessments are grouped by ‘activity type’ into a number of themed areas, and can be viewed or downloaded from the list below, or the complete risk assessment pack downloaded from the menu on the left.
What are AALA and BAHA?
AALA is the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority, a part of the Health and Safety Executive, and is responsible for licensing specified activity providers. AALA has a very narrow range of activities that require providers to obtain a licence. Currently only two of our centres operate licenced activities: Bembridge on the Isle of Wight and Peak Venture in South Yorkshire. All other activities operated at our other centres are outside the scope of the licensing regulations. Full details of the AALA licences can be found at www.aala.org.
BAHA is the British Activity Holiday Association. Kingswood is a founder member of BAHA, the industry body which seeks to safeguard standards and be a voice to champion the benefits of activities for young people. Member centres must abide by the BAHA ‘Code of Practice’ and are committed to high standards of Health & Safety, value for money and customer service. All Kingswood centres are scrutinised by independent BAHA inspectors according to their own criteria. Further details on BAHAs ‘Code of Practice’ and other information can be found at www.baha.org.uk
