Kingswood | Educational Activity Centres

Operating procedures form an integral part of the delivery of any Kingswood Activity session.

This manual has been formed to ensure consistency and stability throughout our activity delivery.

Whilst this is a stand-alone document it should be read in conjunction with the Kingswood Activity Instructor Training Manual, Centre Specific Risk Assessments and the Learning index, Key stages 2, 3 and 4.

We have taken adequate steps to ensure that we fall within the operating procedures of all relevant guidelines, National Governing Body Qualifications and recommended operational guidelines.

This manual has 5 separate elements for each activity:

  • Activity Standard
  • Activity Structure
  • Centre Specific Risk Assessment
  • The Learning Index Keystage 2, 3 & 4
  • Centre specific adjustment

These documents should be used for reference and guidance by all Management and Activity instructors who undertake teaching/instructor roles within the organisation.

Activity Standards

This document clearly lays out the minimum requirement to operate the activity, taking into account instructor:child ratios, instructor qualifications, maximum number of participants and the role of the accompanying adult/s. Unless stated in the Variance section of the document all actions required are compulsory.

Activity Structure

This document clearly states how each activity should be structured. Taking into account Pre-session, Safety, Activity delivery and Post Session. The structure has been formed taking into account centre specific Risk Assessments whilst ensuring the criteria of the Learning Index has been met. There should be no variance from this structure unless clearly highlighted in the centre specific adjustment section of each activity.

Centre Specific Risk Assessments

Risk assessments form the most fundamental document of this policy. All risk assessments are centre-specific to each activity. These documents will be updated annually unless there is a requirement to review sooner. If this action is required then the Activity Standards and Delivery elements will also be reviewed.

The Learning Index

The Learning Index is designed for teachers and instructors to be able to quickly map key learning points, national curriculum links and the development agenda for specific activity sessions. Information within the Learning Index is clearly defined, logically indexed and therefore accessible in the respect of our programmes. Many of our courses are crosscurricular in their nature and therefore cover a number of key areas of the national curriculum. The Learning Index saves time and brings clarity to the many learning opportunities our activities offer.

Centre specific adjustment

Due to certain restrictions, Activity structure may need to vary, if this is the case then all changes to the above procedures must be documented and agreed by a senior member of Management in this document. This document must not be used for changes of a personal preference nature but solely due to restrictions in the stated operating procedures or Risk Assessment.

Conclusion

Safety is always of primal concern. If at anytime, any procedures that are laid down in this document are found to be undeliverable a hindrance, safety risk or cause injury to a participant or instructor it will remain the responsibility of the Centre Manager to ensure that swift action and control measures are implemented allowing a thorough review and audit by a company or non company representative.
