The North Norfolk coast provides pupils undertaking Geography Field trips at the Overstrand centre with a rich and varied environment

For field studies with a large number of locals SSSI's. Just a few miles inland the woodland, heathland and rivers add to the geographical diversity of the region and provide additional ideal locations for Geography fieldwork study.

Geography Field study courses can include a wide range of habitats; freshwater, marine and terrestrial. They can also cover the appropriate ecological principles and fieldwork techniques for students undertaking both individual coursework and group investigations to meet specification requirements. Our environmental team constantly reviews, updates and develops courses in response to feedback from teachers and students and comment from Awarding Bodies.

As well as teaching biology in the field, our courses can be designed to prepare students for their individual studies/investigations, which can then carried out at sites near to the Centre. Students are made familiar not only with identification, fieldwork and data collection techniques, but also encouraged to consider the kinds of data that can be obtained, and the graphical and statistical procedures which may be used to present and interpret them.

Environmental tutors are able to give appropriate support to students when deciding on their investigations and provide them with supervision while collecting data in the field. All sites have prior access agreement and have been risk assessed to ensure safety. Our staff are happy to assist teachers in assessing the outcomes of students individual investigations and coursework.
