New Major Refurbishment announced at West Runton
Kingswood announced a major refurbishment programme that is commencing immediately at the West Runton Centre. Works will commence as early as next month and will be completed in January 2007. These have been timed in order not to impact on the normal running of the centre. The first phase of works will include the addition of a new outdoor teacher terrace that will enable 'alfresco' dining and also a place where teachers can relax and also keep an eye on their charges. This will be complimented by a new teacher retreat and new teacher conservatory. In addition over 200 student beds will be fully upgraded with 25 teacher rooms with ensuites created. The dining hall is also receiving a full makeover and a change of menu with new kitchen equipment to enable a range of healthy meals to be added. In order to improve the environment on centre for guests and neighbours the coach park is being moved to a quieter location at the side of the main buildings and new security fencing is also being added. There will also be works done to the all weather centre and in January 2007 a new Media centre will be opened occupying the building that currently houses the cinema. New Discovery programme launched for KS2 Pupils
Kingswood launched the New Discovery programme in January 2006 with the full programme being available from February half-term. This is the culmination of almost 18 months of work and has combined the efforts of software companies from around the world, Educationalists and also Abacus TV who undertook the Film work and DVD production. Discovery replaces the ground-breaking ICT Action Adventure programme that has run for almost two decades. The new programme combines key elements of ICT, Environmental Studies, Science as well as English and Geography. It introduces students to fun learning themes in an innovative and exciting way and makes the absolute most of both the stunning locations around the Kingswood centres in the UK and also our cutting edge ICT facilities. Jonathan Barber, Educational Programmes Director was "delighted" by the response of both staff and visiting schools to the new programme. "The Discovery programme has been designed to really bring learning to life, pupils will be thrilled, not just by what they learn but also by what they can achieve.
Peak Venture Centre launches in February 2006
Work at the new Peak Venture centre has been completed with excellent reports now being received on the new centre. Kevin Fitzpatrick who remains with the centre since it's Scout Dike days believes that these changes will be of real benefit to clients old and new. "There is little doubt that Scout Dike under the new name of Peak Venture is entering one of the most exciting periods of its' long history". A final phase of works this year will see the new activity barn and reception areas completed. Furthermore there will be additional adventure activity plants including a zip wire and adventure course being added soon.
DELL Technology labs at Kingswood
DELL computers has presented Kingswood with two technology labs packed with their very best hardware which will be opened at the Isle of Wight and West Runton centres in the Spring.
Plans for New Activity Parks
Kingswood has submitted plans for a whole range of activity areas at centres throughout the UK. These include a New High Ropes course at Overstrand, Challenge courses at Staffordshire and the Isle of Wight. New Motorsports facilities are already in the pipeline at most centres and a whole new activities are planned at most centres. This reinforces Kingswood's belief that the best educational programmes need to be supported by a challenging, rewarding and fun adventure programme that can stretch both young muscles as well as minds.
