The bustling heart of Upper Normandy

During your French School Trip, head to Rouen, the capital of Upper Normandy, which has long been a cultural, religious, economic and administrative centre. During the Middle Ages, it rivalled Paris in importance, and for many years it was the second largest city in the kingdom.

Walk your way through history

Explore the recently pedestrianised streets on our guided walking tour past half-timbered houses and bustling shops and discover some of Rouen's treasured architecture. Despite excessive damage suffered during World War II, Rouen still bears witness to its impressive past through an exceptional architectural heritage. Highlights include the Cathedrale Notre Dame, made famous by Monet's Impressionist "Cathedral Series" of paintings, the Gros-Horloge, the Law Courts, the Aitre St. Maclou, St Ouen's Abbey and the Place du Vieux Marc he, where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake.
