A visit to the market brings to life Dieppe's history and economy, which are profoundly linked to fishing and merchant shipping. Here, students are literally immersed in French culture. In the heart of the town, the trawlers and river barges of the Docks & Fish Market offer a superb palette of colours, while the 'Cité de la Mer' is a sea-study all in itself. You can then stroll around town for a bit of shopping and interaction with the locals. Next, discover the 'Castle Museum', a flint and sandstone fortress that existed in the time of Roman Gaul and now houses seascapes, ivories carved by local craftsmen as far back as the 15th century, paintings by Boudin, Lebourg and Pissaro and prints by Braque. Your visit to Dieppe finishes in the Old Town, before going back to
the Chateau to
enjoy a traditional French dinner followed by themed evening entertainments. Students can also combine this study of Dieppe with a comparative UK Town Study, to fulfil National Curriculum Geography requirements. Dieppe Related Links Mairie de Dieppe Dieppe Tourism | |
