Kingswood has announced a major refurbishment plan as it repositions its existing Lake District centre in Cumdivock near Carlisle as a specialist centre tailored for the requirements of children in Secondary education. This will complement its new centre in the North of England near Hexham that is currently under construction and will offer a higher level of occupancy for younger groups at Key Stage 2.
The Kingswood Group already operate a similar and very successful model in North Norfolk with adjacent centres that specialise in the differing needs of Primary and Secondary school children. Educational programmes at Cumdivock will be extended to include the new 3 plus programme as well as a greater emphasis on Field study courses for GCSE and A Level students. This will be combined with a full Lifeskills, Adventure activity and Excursion programme.
The company is also proposing to increase capacity for groups of up to 200 visitors. The centre plans to reopen shortly before Easter 2008.
The surrounding landscape is quiet and gentle but not far away is a dramatic backdrop of hills, valleys, lakes and tarns. Schools find this perfect as a Lake District field study centre as the area abounds with wildlife, providing young pupils with many opportunities for environmental field trips to study flora and fauna in their natural habitats. A visit to our centre in Cumbria will be an enriching and rewarding experience that will make a lasting impression.
