Environmental Field Studies
Study time:
3 x 70 minute fieldwork sessions, 1 x 70 minute ICT session
Choose from a series of options which give students a taste of environmental field studies, with fun, relaxed and informative modules. Students have a great opportunity to take in the natural world around them in the field, before compiling their findings in an ICT follow-up session using the latest technology. We also run specialist Environmental Field Studies courses for Key Stage 4 – ‘A’ Level students. Please call 01603 309 300 for more details and to receive a brochure.
Woodland Study
Investigate the characteristics of a local woodland, collecting qualitative and quantitative data such as species present (quadrat analysis), soil pH, temperature and nutrient levels.
Coastal Study
The coastlines around our centres are some of the country’s most spectacular. Study the coastal landscape including beaches, bays & headlands, their erosion processes and how to manage this in the future.
River Study
Investigate the physical form of a river at various points along its course and monitor invertebrate populations linked to water chemical levels.
Urban Study
Visit local industrial urban centres or tourist-driven coastal towns, witnessing man’s impact on its natural landscape and models of development.
