Man From Defra
Environmental Coastal Management Study
Experience
Explore the problem of coastal erosion and the different defence measures taken against it.
Overview
Introduces erosion on the coast and the impact it can have on towns and villages along our coastline.
DEFRA have asked students to investigate different coastal defence measures and propose a solution for the protection of Kings Bay.
A visit to a local stretch of coast allows students to see various coastal defences in action and find out for themselves the pros and cons of each.
A follow-up ICT session challenges students to champion one type of coastal defence and create a presentation to sell their technology to the people at DEFRA.
Outcome
All pupils record their findings in a Discovery workbook and all the ICT work is copied and returned to school.
