Alien Survivor

Environmental Rock Pool Study

Study Time:

Half day fieldwork + 2 x optional 70 min. follow up session in ICT lab.

Learning Objective:

By the end of this module pupils will understand the concept of adaptation on the seashore.

Overview:

This is a fun introduction to the fascinating world of studying rockpools. Students armed with nets, charts and quadrats identify a whole host of creatures and plant life along a rocky shore to study adaptation, ecosystems and zone exploration. A follow-up ICT session provides a revision of the key points and challenges pupils to apply their new found knowledge to predict which alien would survive the best on the Rockyshore Ridge.

Outcome:

All pupils record their findings in a Discovery workbook and all the ICT work is copied and returned to school.
