The Discovery Programme
“Quality learning experiences in ‘real’ situations have the capacity to raise achievement across a range of subjects and to develop better personal and social skills.”
Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto
Developed by educationalists, Discovery perfectly combines real-life learning scenarios with over 50 thrilling, skill-building adventure activities. The course assists teachers in reaching their ‘learning outside the classroom’ objectives with fully tailored curriculum-linked courses via a selection of 8 modules covering key subjects like ICT, Environmental Studies, Lifeskills, Science, Music & Control Technology.
Whether designing their own interactive computer games platform, using crime scene techniques to investigate a robbery, or discovering rock pools and creature adaptations, Discovery ensures that every child learns more about themselves, others and the world around them.
Making Learning Fun
The brain learns more whilst having fun! So all of our cross-curricular Discovery modules have been designed to foster students’ understanding of the subject areas through exciting and entertaining teaching. Our Instructors have been trained to make sessions an adventure, whether it’s exploring science or learning to climb, in order to capture the enthusiasm and imagination of young students.
Tailor-Made For Teachers
The Discovery Programme has the flexibility to be totally tailor-made for teachers, and this is something our courses have been proudly doing for almost three decades. If Discovery is 99% of what you are looking for and you would like to change a few areas to more perfectly meet your class’ needs then don’t hesitate to ask. We’re proud of our ability to cater to your needs to provide the most educationally stimulating, innovative & relevant courses available.
Developing Every Child
“All young people should have regular and meaningful learning experiences, which are focused and enjoyable.” Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto
At Kingswood, we understand the importance of “Every Child Matters” and Ofsted requirements for teachers to present every child, regardless of their ability, with challenge in order to push their boundaries and develop. This is why Discovery builds on topics already explored at school to deliver parts of the curricula which may be difficult to provide within the confines of the school classroom. For most modules groups will also receive a copy of their project work modules on a CD, so they can take this back to school for further classroom discussions or presentation to their peers.
National Curriculum Links
Being a cross-curricular course, the Discovery modules cross many areas of the National Curriculum & Scottish Curriculum. Learning opportunities for Discovery are varied, with comprehensive workbooks accompanying some modules to promote understanding and ensure that all children have knowledge of the key curriculum-linked learning points and outcomes.
