Learning Outside the Classroom
Leading Education Programmes
As a contributor to its development and a signatory of the Manifesto, Kingswood is fully involved with & supports these key initiatives. Our 30 years of experience has enabled our courses to evolve into some of the leading outdoor education programmes in the UK. Our blend of experiential education and adventure is learning outside the classroom. A visit to a Kingswood Centre supports you in meeting the needs of their Curriculum, crossing many subject areas, providing hands-on relevant learning for pupils, often some of their most memorable. Practical examples of theory learned at school re-engages pupils and instils knowledge and skills which will continue with them to their classroom studies and on into their adult life. Kingswood provides real, exciting, safe and enjoyable programmes which benefit all young people.
LOtC Quality Badge
The recent introduction of the Quality Badge is another major endorsement of the Government’s commitment to making learning outside the classroom accessible to all teachers and pupils. This national accreditation seeks to ensure that you can clearly choose a provider who effectively combines learning and safety in their course provision. Kingswood is actively working towards receiving the Quality Badge Award through British Activity Holiday Association (BAHA) of which we are a founder member.
Every Child Matters
At Kingswood we know that outdoor education at our centres improves young peoples’ development in all five areas of the ‘Every Child Matters’ outcomes. Introduced to complement the LOtC Manifesto, this new approach by the Government is aimed to help children achieve their goals in life. At Kingswood children can:
- Be Healthy: Kingswood courses get children into the outdoors, learning about healthy lifestyles and active minds.
- Stay Safe: Pupils learn how to safely take risks for themselves in a safe and secure Kingswood centre environment.
- Enjoy and Achieve: Children memorably learn through having fun, with engaging and inspiring challenges, learning more about themselves and their classmates.
- Make a Positive Contribution: Pupils learn to work as a team, demonstrating support, tolerance and encouragement for others; time away from home encourages confidence and independence; key life skills development includes decision making, leadership, initiative and problem solving.
- Achieve Economic Wellbeing: Equips children with valuable social skills for their future, broadening their horizons to opportunities available and non-academic ways of learning; increases children’s appetite for learning, raising standards of pupil attainment.
